Radio Nepal and NTV should be transformed into public broadcasting institutions: Communication Minister Karki

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, has said that Radio Nepal and Nepal Television should be transformed into public broadcasting institutions to expand the service not only within its reach but also in the choice of the citizens.
Speaking at an interaction program on ‘Employees’ Concerns in Public Broadcasting Act’ organized by Radio Nepal Employees’ Union and UNI Nepal at Radio Nepal today, Minister Karki said that the citizens could be effectively informed by integrating Radio Nepal and Nepal Television into a public broadcasting service organization.
Minister Karki said that there would be no progress as per the target unless the working conditions are created with the enthusiasm and dedication of the employees working in the organization. He said that special attention should be paid to the capacity building and professional development of the employees.
Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Radio Nepal Dr Baikuntha Aryal said that the public broadcaster should also be linked with the government, adding that it should move ahead with a clear idea of what to do.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director of Radio Nepal, Buddhi Bahadur KC, said Radio Nepal was still playing the role of public broadcasters in terms of broadcasting access and thematic diversity.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Chairman of Nepal Television, Sameer Jung Shah, said that Nepal is a democratic country and an independent public broadcasting organization should be developed so that the voice of all is represented.
