Above-average rainfall this monsoon season, caution needed: DoHM

March 7, Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast that there will be above average rainfall in many parts of the country this monsoon season.
According to the Meteorologist at the department, Sudarshan Humagain, the Terai region of Province 1, north-east of Bagmati province, the southern region of Gandaki Province, north-west of Lumbini Province and Karnali province, and the northern region of the far-western region are expected to receive above-average rainfall this monsoon season.
Meanwhile, the department said the northern part of Province 1, most parts of Madhesh Province and the southern part of Bagmati Province were forecast to receive average rainfall this rainy season.
The department has made the assessment public keeping in mind the four-month monsoon period from June to September
The monsoon season is notorious for natural calamities such as river and flash floods, landslides, and inundations, caused by incessant rainfall.
These natural disasters kill hundreds of people in Nepal every year.
