‘Construction holiday’ announced in Banke

Nepalgunj: Banke Association of contractors has announced a ‘construction holiday’ in the district.
The contractors have halted the construction activities, citing a price hike on construction materials.
With the announcement of the ‘construction holiday’, construction of 500 construction projects of around seven billion rupees has been halted, said Chairperson of Banke Association of Contractors, Tek Bahadur Khadka.
Khadka shared that the contractors have been bearing losses due to excessive price hikes of construction materials.
He opined, “There is no condition to work on the previous contract. So we are compelled to declare a construction holiday.” Contractors said that there is a 25 per cent price hike on diesel, 33 per cent on bricks and 24 per cent on iron.
The Association has demanded to adjust the determined rate of construction materials in the district and to extend the deadlines of construction projects.
