World Environment Day Marked with various programs
Kathmandu, June 5: The World Environment Day was celebrated today across the world including Nepal with the theme ‘Beat Air Pollution’.
Marking the day, President Bidya Devi Bhandari Inaugurated a national workshop on ‘Environment Conservation and climate change’ in Nepalgunj today by planting a mango sapling at the premises of the District Forest Division office.
On the occasion, she urged all to work for environment conservation, as climate change has become a challenge for the whole world. President Bhandari also stressed the need of integrated efforts for sustainable environment conservation.
Similarly, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli observed the Day by planting a sapling of avocado at the premises of Singha Durbar today.
PM Oli also gave continuity to the campaign ‘One Nepali, One Fruit Sapling’ that he had initiated last year. The campaign urges all the Nepalese to plant a tree of their favorite fruit wherever possible. On the occasion, the Prime Minister appealed all for their active participation in environment protection campaign.
The government in its newly released budget for the fiscal year 2019/20 has announced plans and policies to mark the new fiscal year as a year of afforestation.
Likewise, a tree plantation programme was organized at the Radio Nepal premises as well. Radio Nepal Board of Directors’ Chair and Secretary at the Communications and Information Technology Ministry Mahendra Man Gurung inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling of Japanese orange at the Radio Nepal Premises.
On the occasion, Radio Nepal Executive Director Suresh Kumar Kari planted a sapling of Japanese pear. Radio Nepal Employees took part in the programme.
