EU delegation coming to Nepal to rethink its ban on Nepal’s aviation sector

August 1, Kathmandu: A European Union (EU) delegation is coming to Nepal to analyze the lifting of the ban on Nepal’s aviation sector.
The EU delegation decided to come to Nepal to rethink the ban after International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s audit showed that Nepal’s aviation sector had performed better than the world average
Meanwhile, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Jivan Ram Shrestha, has expressed hope that the European Union (EU) would lift the ban on Nepal’s air service sector soon.
At a press meet organized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on the current budget and programmes in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Shrestha reminded that even the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) had stated improvement in Nepal’s air service in its audit report.
He said the EU should lift the ban on Nepal’s aviation sector.
He further shared that the concerned side had written to the CAAN that it would send an onsite audit, which he believed, would help remove Nepal from the EU’s blacklist, thereby paving the way for Nepali airlines’ entry to Europe.
Minister Shrestha said the Gautam Buddha International Airport would.
Smooth management of the domestic and international airports is an equal priority, he said.
The Director General at CAAN, Pradip Adhikari, has also said there was no point in keeping Nepal’s airlines on the blacklist by the EU while ICAO had already mentioned improvement in Nepal’s aviation safety.
