Private sector imperative in economic development of Nepal: Chargé d’Affaires Micaller Jr

July 28, Kathmandu: The US Embassy on Thursday organized a one-day workshop with business and government leaders to promote sustainable economic development in Nepal.

The topics discussed focused on Nepal’s business environment and investment policy initiatives.

Entrepreneurs, executives, business association representatives, development agencies, think tanks, and government officials attended the workshop held in Kathmandu.

According to the US Embassy, the workshop gave a common platform to all the key stakeholders in promoting sustainable economic development in Nepal.

The US Embassy said the event was also an opportunity for the US Embassy to demonstrate support for increased US business investment and engagement in Nepal.

The US Embassy Kathmandu’s Chargé d’Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr., Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari, and Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Arjun Pokharel provided opening remarks in the workshop

Chargé d’Affaires Manny P. Micaller Jr said in Nepal, as in many other countries, the private sector was the key change agent in economic development – creating jobs and contributing the most to national income.

“Beyond that, the private sector leads by example, demonstrating values such as responsibility and inclusion, and making a positive impact that lifts all communities in Nepal,” Micaller Jr said.

The event also highlighted the new and rapidly growing American Chamber of Commerce in Nepal (AmCham Nepal), which is working to support the US-Nepal trade and investment relationship.
