President Bhandari says cooperation between governments and civil society organizations necessary to end VAW

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has stressed the need for eradicating violence against women taking it as a social problem.
Talking to representatives of delegations from SAARC countries who arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the ‘South Asian Women Conference’, the president said that a common campaign in the South Asian region could be more effective to address the issue of violence against women.
Communications expert Tika Dhakal said President Bhandari wished for the success of the objectives and motto of the conference.

Similarly, speaking at an inauguration of the South Asian Women Conference, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said the impacts of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic have contributed to a further rise in the exploitation and violence against women.
While inaugurating the ‘South Asian Women Conference’ jointly organized by the National Women’s Commission, National Human rights Commission, Women Non-Government Organization Federation, and Every Woman in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Vice-President stressed the need for concerted actions to fight violence against women.
Speaking at the same program, Indian Scholar, Environmentalist, and Eco-Feminist Vandana Shiva said the economic empowerment of women was necessary to reduce the cases of violence.
Noted writer and Gender Rights Activist from India, Meera stressed the need of implementing laws against gender-based violence.
Various Women Human Rights Activists in South Asia and America are attending the conference.
The Conference is concluding on Wednesday.
