EC receives Rs 8 billion in assurance for local-level elections

Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has said it received assurance of Rs 8.11 billion from the Ministry of Finance for holding the upcoming local level elections.

In a press meet on Thursday, EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel confirmed that the ministry has communicated to the EC confirming the budget. Prior to this, the EC had urged the ministry to ensure Rs 8.95 billion for the purpose of the local level poll.

Poudel said though the budget was less than the demand of the EC the government committed to ensuring sufficient budget needed for holding a poll.
