SC gives verdict to cancel construction of Nijgad International Airport

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has given a verdict to cancel the construction of Nijgad International Airport considering the environmental consequences.  

The extended full bench of justices Hari Krishna Karki, Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada, Prakash Man Singh Raut and Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday gave a verdict to cancel the construction process of the airport.

A writ was filed at the Supreme Court regarding the deforestation issues for the construction of the airport. An estimated 2.4 million trees were proposed to be cut down for the construction of the airport.
