Decision on MCC intrinsic to Nepal: US Embassy (audio report)

February 20, Kathmandu: The US Embassy has clarified that the decision to accept or decline the American grant project MCC is intrinsic to Nepal.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the US Embassy said whether Nepali leaders ratified MCC was a decision for Nepal to make, as a sovereign democratic nation.

Stating that the year 2022 marked the 75th year of ties between Nepal and the United States, the US Embassy reminded that the US had supported the country with development aid, disaster response and preparedness assistance, and health and education programs in those 75 years.

The press statement reads “This 500 million American Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant is a gift from the American people and a partnership between the two nations that will bring jobs and infrastructure to Nepal and improve the lives of Nepalis. This project was requested by the Nepali government and the Nepali people and designed to transparently reduce poverty and grow the economy of Nepal”.
