Sharma designated as acting CoAS

Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has designated Chief of General Staff of the Nepali Army Lieutenant General Prabhu Ram Sharma to the post of acting Chief of Army Staff.

This will come into effect from August 10. President Bhandari designated Sharma as the Acting CoAS as per the cabinet decision on July 27 to recommend his name to the post as the incumbent CoAS as three years term of sitting Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa is expiring on September 9.

Similarly, incumbent CoAS Thapa is taking a leave from August 8. President Bhandari is the Commander-in-chief of the Nepal Army.
This designation is based on seniority in the post, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Office of President.
