Country observing Martyrs’Day

January 29, Kathmandu: The Martyrs’ Day is being observed across the country amid various programs on Friday, commemorating the role of those who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy through various democratic movements.
Magh 16 (of Nepali calendar) is marked as Martyrs’ Day every year.
In 1997BS, Martyrs Shukraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand were executed by then autocratic Rana regime for their struggle to establish freedom and democracy.
A morning rally has been organized on Friday, from Shanti Batika to Lainchaur in Kathmandu.
Nepal has been observing the day in memory of martyrs’ sacrifices which led to the establishment of democracy abolishing the autocratic Rana Regime.
