Sincere efforts of all necessary in protection and implementation of Constitution: President Bhandari

September 20, Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has pointed out the need for sincere efforts on part of the parties to protect and implement the constitution while lauding the role played by the political parties in the promulgation and advancement of the constitution.

Speaking at a programme organised at Sheetal Niwas on Monday on the occasion of Constitution Day and National Day-2079, President Bhandari shared that efforts to institutionalize the federal democratic republic guaranteed by the constitution are underway.

Mentioning that a local-level election was held a few months ago and election of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly scheduled for November 20 is part of the process, she expressed the belief that people’s representatives could play stronger role in social, economic, cultural and educational advancement with a focus on the country’s broader welfare.

“We are celebrating Constitution Day and National Day today on the occasion of completion of seven years of promulgation of the constitution of federal democratic republic Nepal as a result of decade-long people’s struggle and sacrifice of the Nepali people”, said President Bhandari, adding “Not only in Nepal, the Constitution Day is being observed today in different countries of the world where Nepalis are living.

I congratulate and extend best wishes to all on this historic occasion.” Stating that the Constitution has made Nepali people empowered to protect Nepal’s freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity and dignity, the President shared that the Constitution has connected racial, linguistic, religious and geographically-diversified Nepali society with border national unity.

She further said that there is a need for adaptation in a mountainous country like Nepal to deal with climate change’s impacts and to create employment opportunities for youths in the country.

“It’s imperative to run programmes related to education, health, drinking water and sanitation as well as projects with long-term impact. We need resources and skills to execute these programmes and projects,” Bhandari said, expressing, “Today’s programme has the presence of the development partners of Nepal. I, on this historic occasion, would like to extend my gratitude for your solidarity and support towards the Constitution of Nepal as well as for your cooperation in Nepal’s development sector.”
