Climate Champions Conference kicks off in Kathmandu

September 6, Kathmandu: A two-day Climate Champions Conference started in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

According to the organizers, the conference will bring together 100 young leaders from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to develop action plans to face the numerous challenges brought by climate change.

“The two-day event is being organized with the support of the US Embassies in the South Asian region,” the organizers said.

During his speech at the inaugural session of the conference, Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Yadav expressed his happiness to see young people from the South Asian region coming together with the sole purpose of mitigating climate change.

Addressing the conference, the visiting US Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Elizabeth Horst, highlighted the need for urgency and unity to fight the climate crisis.

“The United States is dedicated to working together with our partners throughout South Asia to address this critical crisis,” Horst said.

The conference will conclude on September 7 (Wednesday).
