Epidemiology and Disease Control Division directs hospitals to remain on high alert citing possibility of cholera outbreak in Valley

Kathamndu: The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has directed hospitals to remain on high alert citing the possibility of an outbreak of cholera infection in the Kathmandu Valley.

Director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Chuman Lal Das informed the Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives that 12 cases of Cholera infection had been detected in the Kathmandu Valley so far.

He added that eight Cholera patients had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while four were receiving treatment at various hospitals in the valley.

The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Director added that bacteria of Cholera were detected in the waters at Bagbazar, Dillibazar, Sanepa, and Budha Nilakantha areas. He also informed that the division found polluted waters in various water pumps, jars and even in the water distributed by the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited after carrying out sample tests.

He said tests would also be carried out in water sources outside the Kathmandu Valley. The first case of Cholera in the Kathmandu Valley was reported on the 19th of June.
