Mahashivaratri being observed worshipping Lord Shiva

March 1, Kathmandu: Hindu devotees in and across the country are observing the Mahashivaratri festival offering worship to Lord Shiva today.
There is a belief that the celebration of Mahashivaratri brings peace and prosperity to one’s life.
Hindu devotees take a bath in rivers and ponds and offer worship to Lord Shiva’s shrines.
The day is regarded as the most favorite day of Lord Shiva, who brings happiness to the heart of those living in difficulty.
Even fasting is observed today and the night is observed with vigil (jagram), praying and celebrating Lord Shiva. There is a religious belief that vigil and fasting take one to heaven after death.
Similarly, classical dances are performed at Kailashkut and Kirateshwor of the Pashupati area.
A large number of devotees have thronged to the holy shrine from early morning .
The Pashupati Area Development Trust has said it has made special arrangements for facilitating the devotees.
