House Of Representatives meeting postponed

Kathmandu: A meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for today has been postponed till Friday, citing a special reason.
Issuing a notice, the HoR meeting was postponed till 1:00 pm tomorrow. There was an agenda to hold the discussion in principle on the US aid project- Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact in the meeting.
The meeting was postponed after the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, today failed to forge consensus on the issue of forwarding the MCC compact.
Meanwhile, earlier the ruling partners CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) urged the government not to proceed towards theoretical discussions in regard to a proposal tabled in parliament seeking to endorse the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact with the US Government.
Today’s HoR session was scheduled to start deliberations on the proposal. Stating that a wider political consensus was lacking over the matter and the main opposition continued to obstruct the House, both parties called for suspending the further proceedings at the moment.
However, the ruling Nepali Congress insisted on moving the proposal to further parliamentary proceedings. It is said the Maoist Centre would discuss the matter inside the party to decide whether to entertain the proposal or not.
Similarly, in view of UML leader Dr Bhim Bahadur Rawal, the proposal should not be moved forwards amidst the street protests against it.
