Radio is at forefront of communication sector: Executive Director KC

February 13, Kathmandu: The 11th World Radio Day is being celebrated around the world and in Nepal on Sunday by organizing various programs with the theme ‘Radio and Trust’.
The 36th Conference of UNESCO, acting on Spain’s proposal, had declared February 13 as World Radio Day on November 3, 2011.
Since then, World Radio Day has been marked on February 13 every year at the call of the United Nations.
On the occasion of World Radio Day, Executive Director (ED) of Radio Nepal, Buddhi Bahadur KC, has expressed his best wishes to all the radio broadcasting houses and the people working for radio.
“Arriving at World Radio Day 2022, the claim that radio is one of the more reliable sources of mass communication has got further validation,” KC said.
He said radio has been proving its role and effectiveness to the world through its reliable content, easy access, public responsibility, and popularity and competition, even in today’s age of advanced information technology. “This year’s theme ‘Radio and Trust’ has added further relevance to these features of the radio,” KC said

ED KC said that the place of radio is at the forefront in the world of communication, especially due to its contribution to creating public awareness and social transformation.
Stating that the importance of radio had increased in times of epidemics and disasters, ED KC said that radio had been showing its value during natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and landslides.
“Radio Nepal, the country’s oldest broadcasting house, has been playing a leading role in bringing awareness and providing information and entertainment to the masses since its establishment in 1951,” KC said adding that the private FMs, established since the 1990s, had also played an equally important role in creating public awareness.
Stating that radio broadcasting has changed a lot in regards to the broadcasting technology, content selection, and presentation style, ED KC reminded that Internet / Digital Radio had also come into operation.
ED KC has wished for mutual understanding, coordination, cooperation, and collaboration between radio broadcasting houses of all types and technologies.
“May today’s occasion of 11th World Radio Day inspire us all to realize the theme ‘Radio and Trust’ through the diversity of content, easy access, and healthy competition,” ED KC said.
