Political parties stress holding elections on stipulated dates
Kathmandu: The Election Commission on Friday held discussions with political parties regarding the upcoming National Assembly election and the local level elections.
The political parties have suggested, the Election Commission should hold elections on the stipulated dates.
After the all-party meeting with the commission, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak said his party suggested increasing voting centres for the upcoming National Assembly elections.
Leader Lekhak added that political parties urged the government to fix the local level election date soon.
Similarly, major opposition CPN-UML leader Bishnu Rimal said his party seconded the Commission’s voice for timely elections.
After the meeting, Election Commission Spokesperson Saligram Sharma informed that the meeting dwelt on the upcoming National Assembly election, preparing voters’ lists and scheduling the local level elections.
On the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya suggested announcing the local level elections dates by the third week of January citing the lack of necessary 120 days for election preparation.
