Israel now open for Nepali migrant workers with the signing of Implementation Protocol

January 22, Kathmandu: Nepal and Israel have signed an agreement for providing employment to Nepali migrant workers.

At a programme organised at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security on Thursday, Director General at Department of Foreign Employment, Kumar Dahal, on the behalf of the Government of Nepal (GoN) and Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder, on the behalf of the government of Israel signed the ‘Implementation Protocol’ for the implementation of ‘Agreement related to temporary employment of Nepali workers in the Israeli labour market’.

The prior agreement was signed on September 30, 2020.

With the signing of the protocol, the Israeli labour market would be opened for Nepali youth.

Five hundred Nepali youths would now get employment as caregivers as well as in hospitals, nursing homes and daycare centres, according to the ministry.

They would get services and facilities as per the labour-related laws of Israel.

The Nepali youths would be sent to Israel for employment via government to the government process.

Israel is seen as one of the attractive destinations for foreign employment.

There are around 2,500 Nepalis in Israel, according to Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.

On the occasion, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Gauri Shankar Chaudhary said that a new dimension had been added in bilateral relation of Nepal and Israel with the signing of the protocol.

Likewise, Nepali Ambassador to Israel, Dr Anjan Shakya said that she was actively involved to open the Israeli labour market to Nepali workers after she went to Israel as the Nepali envoy, adding that her work had been successful.
