National Children’s Day being marked today

Kathmandu: The National Children’s Day is being marked across the country on Monday by virtually holding meetings, conferences, and awareness programs. Different kinds of programs, games, and award ceremonies were held in yesteryears to organize the National Children’s Day, but this year’s celebrations are being held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has asked three-tier of governments, national and international non-governmental agencies, civil society and guardians to be more sensitive to ensure child rights in the current difficult situation created by the pandemic coronavirus infection.

In a message on the occasion of the National Children’s Day on Monday, the President has stated that it was the state’s responsibility to effectively implement national laws and different international treaties, agreements and commitments made by the government to ensure child rights. Saying that getting quality education was the children’s rights, the President mentioned that three-tier of governments, national and international agencies, community sectors, the media and civil society having been taking steps to make schools the centre of attraction by creating a child-friendly academic environment.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that protection of child rights and ensuring their welfare was the government’s top priority. In a message of best wishes to the guardians and children in the country and abroad on the occasion of National Children’s Day, Prime Minister Oli mentioned that the government was formulating and implementing laws and policies for protecting the child rights as per the constitutional provision.

He committed to book the culprits of heinous crimes against children and provide the guardianship to the children.
