NIC directs public sector, political parties to implement right to information

Kathamndu: The National Information Commission (NIC) has directed the public sector and political parties to implement people’s right to information.

Clause 3 (1) in the Right to Information Act, 2064 has guaranteed the right of Nepali citizens to information and Clause 3 (2) has ensured access to information for Nepali citizens, the Commission stated in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The public sector as per the laws should update and publicise its activities once every three months. But most of the registered political parties are found to have violated the right to information, according to the statement.

The Commission has pointed out an important and leading role of political parties in implementing the right to information. It has directed the public sector to provide information to Nepali citizens in a feasible way and within the stipulated deadline as per the Right to Information Act, 2064.
