Director-General of WHO pays a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the National Assembly

 

Kathmandu : The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, at Singhadurbar today.

During the meeting, Chairperson Timilsina expressed happiness over the important responsibilities of the WHO and the time taken to visit Nepal despite the busy schedule.

Recalling that the WHO has been a supportive partner in tackling public health challenges around the world since its inception, Chairperson Timilsina thanked him for assisting Nepal in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Similarly, Chairperson Timilsina stressed the need for equal distribution of the vaccine against COVID-19 around the world, noting that there are voices of unequal distribution, especially in some African and underdeveloped countries.

Likewise, WHO Director-General Tedros said that he was impressed by the interest shown by Chairman Timilsina in the health sector as the leader of the Parliament of Nepal.

Similarly, the WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, Dr Poonam Khetrapal, said that the achievements made by Nepal, especially in vaccination, infant, and maternal mortality rates, were exemplary and other countries could learn from them.
