Government committed to press freedom: Communication Minister Karki

Kathmandu: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki says the government is committed to protecting and promoting press freedom.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 67^th anniversary of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) in Kathmandu Wednesday, Minister Karki applauded the roles of journalists and media in strengthening democracy and battling Covid-19.

The communication Minister added that the government had made various policy-level and legal provisions for the welfare of the journalists.

Likewise, Communication Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal said the ministry was always ready to support journalists in enhancing their professional skills.

LiKSimSimilarly, Chair of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Bipul Pokharel said the journalists’ umbrella organization is sensitive in terms of maintaining media decency but opposes any attempt intended to curb press freedom.
