Deuba re-elected as Nepali Congress President

December 15, Kathmandu: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected as the party’s president from the party’s 14th general convention. 

He won the re-election on Tuesday to become the party president for the second term.
 

Chairman Deuba defeated his rival, Dr Shekhar Koirala, by 878 votes. 

Deuba had garnered 2,733 votes out of 4,623 votes cast in the counting held on Monday while Dr Koirala got 1,855 votes, according to the party’s Central Election Committee. 
 

Voting had started at 3:30 pm and had ended at 9 pm on Tuesday.

After the five party presidential candidates failed to get more than 50 per cent of the votes in Monday’s election, the prime minister and incumbent party president Deuba and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala, who got the second-highest number of votes had go to the polls again .
