Heightening risk of scrub typhus in Baitadi

September 15, Kathmandu: The risk of scrub typhus has increased in recent days in Baitadi district.

The risk of the disease has increased after scrub typhus infection detected in people coming to the district hospital and health facilities seeking treatment.

Hospital’s information officer Harish Panta said the number of scrub typhus patients had been increasing in the district this year although it was detected sporadically last year.

He added that infection had been found in 22 persons since the start of the monsoon season from mid-July.

The infection has been found in patients coming from all the local levels of the district.

Dr Basanta Raj Joshi, Chief of the District Hospital, shared that among the 100 patients coming to the hospital daily, 50 were found suffering from viral fever.
