August 27, Doti: Gaura Parba, the major festival of Far west Province, has begun from Friday.

The festival is being observed in memory of the marriage of Gauri Devi(Parbati) and Lord Shiva (Maheshwor).

On the first day of the festival, the beginning of the festival is marked by soaking five types of grains in water in a copper pot.

Locally, the collection of the five grains including wheat, peas and black gram is known as Biruda.

Biruda is received as Prasad.

Gaura Festival is marked in the Far western area by organising different religious functions from Bhadra Shukla Shashti to Ashtami. The residents of Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Doti and other districts observe the festival with great fanfare.
