CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Dahal files review petition at Supreme Court

Kathmandu, March 30: Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking a review of the decision on a case related to the party’s name – Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The Supreme Court on March 7 gave a verdict in favour of the NCP with Rishi Kattel as the party chairperson and declared that the then CPN (UML) and the then CPN (Maoist Centre) were legally separate parties.

Chair Dahal himself reached the Supreme Court today and registered the application for review of the apex court’s verdict regarding the party’s name.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair said that the Supreme Court’s decision reinstating the House of Representatives was welcome but its verdict on March 7 regarding the name of the NCP was unusual for them.

It is argued in the petition that the March 7 decision was seriously flawed as it was against the precedents and principles established by the Supreme Court before this. The petition has sought justice as per the constitution by making a review of and an annulment of the ‘flawed’ order.

The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was formed in May 2018 after the merger of the then CPN(UML) and the then CPN(Maoist Centre).
