New COVID-19 variant confirmed in Nepal, 193 people under observation

Kathmandu- The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has confirmed five cases of the new variant of COVID-19 in Nepal.

The infected people had recently arrived in Nepal from the United Kingdom (UK).

The Division carried out a PCR test of 12 people and confirmed five cases of the new variant among them.

The Ministry of Health and Population has put 193 people landed from the UK under observation.

Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Dr. Basudev Pandey, said the treatment would be carried out by conducting a PCR test if those who are under observation developed symptoms like fever and the common cold.

Issuing a notice, the Ministry had requested all entering Nepal from London or via London route from December 16 to 22 to stay at hotel quarantine for 10 days compulsory.

Dr. Pandey shared that preparation had been made to send the sample outside the country for the re-test as a problem has surfaced to detect the new variant of the virus through PCR test here in Nepal.
