17 dead, six missing in Achham landslide

Achham: 17 people have died and six people have gone missing in landslides in Achham.

The incident took place after two houses were buried by landslides in different municipalities of the district last night.

Achham Acting Chief District Officer Dipesh Rijal said 17 people have died in landslides in different municipalities of the district and six people are still missing. According to him, 11 injured people were rescued and taken to Surkhet for treatment in a Nepal army helicopter.

So far, four bodies have been found in Turmakhand Rural Municipality-5, seven in Kamalbazar Municipality-6, and five in Ward No. 8. According to Rijal, one body has been found in Dhakari rural municipality-6.

Chief of District Police Office, Achham Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayan Dangi, said that police teams have been mobilized as reports have been received of houses being damaged and buried by landslides in various places of the district.
