Srilankan Parliament choosing new President today

July 20, Kathmandu: The Parliament of Sri Lanka is electing a new president amidst a severe economic crisis on Wednesday. 

The current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickramasinghe, has been nominated by the ruling party as its candidate for the President. 

But the protesters have demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Wickramasinghe as well.

The opposition party has made Dullas Daham Kumara Alahapperuma its candidate. 

The President elected by Wednesday’s vote will run the country until November 2024
