Sri Lankan Rajapaksa in Maldives’ capital Mali after fleeing country

July 13, Kathmandu: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left the country for the Maldives’ capital, Mali, amid economic turmoil in the Island nation.
The 73-year-old Rajapaksa arrived in Mali at 3 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning on a military plane, according to the BBC.
Rajapaksa’s departure marks the end of the Rajapaksa family’s decades-long dominance in Sri Lankan politics.
President Gotabhaya had been in hiding since protesters stormed the presidential palace on Saturday.
He had announced his resignation through the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament.
