Buddha Jayanti being observed across the Country/President and Prime Minister give best wishes

May 16, Kathmandu: The 2566th birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha- Buddha Jayanti- is being observed across the country by commemorating his contribution to the establishment of world peace.
Buddha, regarded as the ninth incarnation of Lord Bishnu, was born on Shukla Purnima of Baisakh month in the lunar calendar.
There is a coincidence that the dates according to the lunar calendar the Buddha got birth, wisdom, and mahaparinirvan (passing away) fall same.
The Buddhist communities in the world including Nepal observing the Day with much reverence.
The birth anniversary of Buddha, the apostle of non-violence and peace, is being observed with spiritual leaders and gurus at monasteries. Grand programmes are being held at Lumbini, Swayambhu, and Bauddha on Buddha Jayanti on the occasion.
Buddha born in royal family of King Suddhodhan and Queen Mayadevi had left his palace at the age of 29 for penance. He is regarded also as the ‘Light of Asia’.
Buddhist philosophy is taught in internationally acclaimed universities like Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed her best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters at home and abroad on the occasion of the 2566th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, the propounder of Buddhist philosophy and the pioneer of the world peace.
In her message, the President has said it was a matter of pride for all of us that Nepal is the birthplace of the great Gautam Buddha.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended greetings on the occasion of 2566th Buddha purnima today.
Issuing a message of best wishes on 2566th Buddha Jayanti today, PM Deuba wished world peace, co-existence, tolerance, brotherhood and fraternity in the world.
PM Deuba expressed his best wishes to all and wished that Buddha Purnima would inspire all to promote unity and mutual respect in the entire human community.
Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has said the Buddha’s teaching would inspire all to move towards knowledge, good path and world peace. Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 2566th Buddha Jayanti today, Sapkota said the apostle of peace, Buddha, is the ideal of human community.
