Constituency infrastructure development plan gaining effectiveness

Gandaki: Dwellers of a local landless squatter community have become an example of how people’s shared problems can be fixed with a small investment.

Residents of Pokhara metropolis-15, Patneri have felt a sigh of relief to some extent following the construction of an RCC road going through the squatters’ settlement.

Locals said that a drainage pipe was placed and a 60-metre-long road with a breadth of seven meters was repaired with RCC materials. The project was undertaken at the cost of Rs 550,000, including Rs 300,000 of the Electoral Constituency Infrastructure Development Plan of the Gandaki Province.

During onsite monitoring of different seven projects carried out at a total cost of Rs 2.9 million of the Infrastructure Development Plan, Deputy Speaker of Gandaki Province Assembly Srijana Sharma expressed her confidence that the development works undertaken on the active engagement of users were of standard quality.

The deputy speaker also pledged to provide possible cooperation to fulfil the development needs of the people, including drinking water and road construction.

Users’ Committee chair Mukti Lal Gurung shared that placement of culvert on Dhungesanguchowk road and installation of drainage pipe in Tutunga were carried out from the infrastructure development project.
The squatters’ community has been at high risk of rain-induced disasters every year in the lack of well-built roads with drainage from Tutunga to Patneri settlement via Paropakar Sangh.
