Province government minister spends all his pay, perks on social work

Kaski: Minister for Law, Communication and Province Assembly Affairs, Bindu Kumar Thapa has spent his salary and facilities on social work.

Speaking in a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union (NPU) Kaski branch here today, he informed that he contributed a total of one million 486 thousand 907 rupees in social and development works. Of this amount, one million 366 thousand 360 accounts for his meeting allowance, monthly remuneration and other perks while the remaining amount is his personal contribution.

On the occasion, the province government minister shared that he spent his government pay and perks for the service of the people with the thinking that politics should be for the service of the people rather than for personal economic gains.

Minister Thapa had declared while campaigning for the election that he would spend the pay and allowances that he gets from the state coffers on social welfare works.

“For me, politics should be for public service. I have not taken it as a profit-earning business. I have no problem for sustenance as I won trade and business as well as other economic income,” he said, adding that public service rather than economic gain from politics was his political mission.

Minister Thapa has been spending his salary and allowances on medical treatment of needy people, purchasing medical equipment for community hospitals and health posts and construction of water supply projects for the underprivileged communities as Dalits. This he has been doing since he was elected the Province Assemblymember in 2074 BS.

He has also been making public the amount he draws as salary and allowance every year.
