MCC should be ratified without delay: Minister Karki (audio report)

February 8, Kathmandu: Minister for Communication and Information Technology and the government spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) can help in the socio-economic transformation of the country.

Talking to the media, Minister Karki said MCC could be pivotal for poverty alleviation and sustainable development of the country.

Minister Karki said Nepal had chosen the project for building cross-country transmission lines and road expansion and upgradation.

He said that the MCC pact should be implemented without delay after taking to the approval of the House of Representatives.

Stating that MCC was not a loan but a grant, Minister Karki said that the MCC pact was taken forward even by the past prime ministers and finance ministers.

Minister Karki said many countries had successfully implemented the MCC pact and garnered get results.

Minister Karki also said that the rumours and arguments against MCC were baseless and unwarranted.

He said it was therefore imperative for Nepal to get the pact ratified and implemented as soon as possible.
