NIC calls for effective implementation of RTI law

Kathmandu: The National Information Commission has urged the public agencies for the effective implementation of the constitutionally-guaranteed Right to Information.

Noting that most of the public agencies monitored in Province 1 and Madhes Province were found not implementing the responsibility to proactively disclose the information, the Commission called for the authorities to fully and effectively implement the citizen’s right to information.

Information Commissioner and Spokesperson of the NIC, Kamala Oli Thapa pointed out the need for the federal, provincial and local governments to put in place proactive measures to enforce RTI provisions.

In order to protect, preserve and adopt RTI as per the Right to Information provision stipulated in the Constitution and RTI Act, 2007, the NIC was established.

Thapa further said that the NIC has been issuing order in the name of public agencies to mandatorily allocate programme and budget for RTI promotion so as to make the public authorities further transparent, accountable and responsible.
