PM Deuba asks all to get united for COVID-19 control

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said one and all should unite for COVID-19 control in the country.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by main opposition CPN-UL on COVID control on Saturday, PM Deuba asked all to join hands to overcome the risks of coronavirus infection.

“We all should unite, irrespective of the political parties, for the control and prevention of coronavirus infection”. “It is the collaboration and unity among us that can tame the spread of coronavirus”, he said, adding the government was effortful to make the general public aware of the news variant of coronavirus, Omicron.

After he took the government leadership the number of people inoculated with vaccine has remarkably increased and the government is moving ahead to administer complete doses of vaccine to all those eligible, Deuba claimed.

A delegation headed by CPN-UML vice-chair and parliamentary party deputy leader Subash Nembang submitted a 22-point attention letter in regard to the control, prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Among the points included in the attention, letter are adopting public health safety protocol, conducting massive public awareness and publicity, increasing the number of vaccination centres and providing vaccine services to the citizens of all ages, engaging state agencies and diplomatic sector, making arrangements of vaccine supply and use and setting up adequate storehouse.

The UML has also asked the government to manage and operate screening and holding centres along the border put in place COVID-10 crisis management tasks in coordination with all three tiers of the government, mobilize additional health human resources with the arrangement of incentive package and provide resources and means and human resources to local health units.

Likewise, the opposition party asked the government to mobilize all mechanism and political parties as well as public and private hospitals and medical colleges in a coordinated manner and mobilize a mobile team under the leadership of public health inspector at the local level.

Among other points are the operation of rehabilitation centres as per the need, increasing the existing capacity of hospitals, arranging booster doses and undertaking research and study on COVID-19 in a coordinated manner.

The delegation comprises UML vice-chair Nembang, health department in-charge Yogesh Bhattarai, standing committee member Khagaraj Adhikari, leader Krishna Gopal Shrestha and Bishal Bhattarai among others. The team has also pointed out 11 weaknesses in coronavirus prevention and control.
