Minister Shrestha urges IOM Chief to manage COVID-19 vaccines for Nepali migrant workers

December 16, Kathmandu: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha has urged the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission for Nepal Lorena Lando to provide COVID-19 for Nepalis aspiring foreign jobs.
In a meeting with Lando at his office on Thursday, the Minister praised the contributions of the IOM, Nepal for having addressed problems facing Nepali migrant workers in the international labour market.
He also apprised the IOM Chief of efforts taken by the ministry in utilizing skills acquired by the Nepalis who have returned home from foreign employments and capital mobilisation.
Minister Shrestha stressed the need for a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and IOM to make a strategic concept on safe immigration and safety of Nepali migrant workers in the international labour market and availability of decent jobs and ending exploitation and another form of tortures meted out against them, said the Ministry.
In response, the IOM Chief said that the IOM is ready to play the role of facilitator to end problems facing Nepali migrant workers and suggest the areas relating to policy level and technical aspects.
