Second round of voting for Nepali Congress presidency underway

Kathmandu: Voting in the second round of election for the post of President under Nepali Congress’s 14th General Convention is now underway.

As none of the five candidates for the party President post secured a majority in the first round of the voting held yesterday, the voting entered the second round.

As per the party statute, a candidate must secure over 50 per cent of the total cast votes to win the Party President post.

And in the absence of any candidate meeting the requirement in the first round of the election, voting goes on second round between the two competitors with the highest votes.

The competition would be now held between She Bahadur Deuba and Dr Shekhar Koirala.

Party’s Election Committee Secretary Jagannath Shrestha said vote-counting of the post of party president would begin from tonight on Tuesday itself soon after the election concludes.

He added that the election result of the president post would be made public by midnight on Tuesday.
