UML General Convention: Office-bearers added to forge consensus

Chitwan: The statute of CPN-UML has been amended to address the concerns of aspiring leaders in the 10th national general convention of the CPN (UML). The last meeting of the incumbent Central Committee held at Sauraha in Chitwan last night decided to submit a proposal to increase the number of posts in the closed session to be held today.
According to UML central office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang, there will be 301 members in the central committee, 99 in the politburo, 45 in the standing committee and 19 office bearers in the secretariat.
Accordingly, there will have one chairperson and one senior vice-chairperson, six vice-chairpersons, one general secretary, three deputy general secretaries and seven secretaries. The meeting has decided to ensure unanimous election in all these posts.
The closed session of the general convention will start at 10 am today, with sharing of statements of good wishes from foreign parties and delegates in the beginning. The UML has claimed that the statute has been amended keeping in view the upcoming election.
