Government is committed to full press freedom: PM Oli
March 30, Kathmandu: PM KP Sharma Oli has expressed his commitment to full press freedom.
Addressing the 23rd anniversary programme of the Reports’ Club in Kathmandu on Tuesday, PM Oli urged the media to exercise the press freedom decently. He also pledged the government’s readiness for the development and expansion of media sector.
On the occasion, PM Oli said some people were trying to dilute the national politics for petty interests blaming them of being jealous of development the incumbent government ushered.
He also clarified that he was never a hurdle for unity. However, due to unruly nature of some leaders the present situation had emerged.
Touching various issues, the PM stressed on following native cultures and expanding them to the world as a model.
The PM also pledged to increase the social security allowance from the next fiscal year. Likewise, the PM said there had been no discrimination in budget distributions to provinces and clarified special programme and aids could be provided as per the need.
The PM further said the government had been successful to test, treat and vaccinate people against the covid-19 free of coast although several countries are still struggling to receive the vaccine.
Also speaking on the occasion, Communication and Information Technology Minister and Government Spokesperson Parbat Gurung stressed on disseminating research based articles rather than bringing out pessimistic news.
Similarly, Nepali Congress Senior Leader Ram Chandra Paudel said prime importance should be on protecting system rather than staying in power. He further said dissolution of parliament could not save rights of people.
Likewise, Chair of the People’s Socialist Party Mahanta Thakur said the party would support the government if the government singed a written agreement to address the demands of Madhes.
Amidst the programme, various personalities contributing to media were also awarded. The Reports’ Club conferred the Tarini Prasad Koirala Jouranlism Award to Chief of the News Department of Radio Nepal Dr Nabaraj Lamsal and senior report of Nepal Television Shalikram Subedi.
