BP Highway being repaired

March 12, Kathmandu: Six years after the handover of the BP Highway, various sections along the Dhulikhel-Sindhuli-Bardibas roadway are getting repaired. The regular and occasional maintenance as an overlay and single surface tracing will be carried out on the roadway constructed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Dhulikhel-Sindhuli-Bardibas Road Project has informed that the maintenance would be conducted in some 100-km in this fiscal year. Project Chief Surya Bahadur Bhat said, “Although regular and occasion maintenances were conducted earlier too, the overlay is being done this year. The road is being repaired on a large scale.”

Nepali labours are employed in most of the sections for repair. In addition to the money collected with road tax by Road Board Nepal, the maintenance is being carried out with the monetary assistance of the World Bank, Bhat added.

Currently, the overlay has been over in the 5-km long Nepalthok-Dhulikhel section. Similarly, the plan is afoot to overlay the 35-km Chiyabari section of Khurkot, Sindhuli.

Single surface tracing has been complete on a 10-km length from Nepalthok to Dhulikhel. The contract for a 20-km overlay from Nepalthok to Khurkot has been made, which however would complete next year.

Currently, the repair is ongoing at the 5-km Bhakundebensi section.
