March 3, Kathmandu: Nepali acid victim-survivor Muskan Khatun is going to be awarded the International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award.

According to the US Embassy Kathmandu, Khatun is being awarded for her work to end acid attacks.

Khatun is the first Nepali to receive the award.

“First Lady Dr Jill Biden and Secretary of State Tony Blinken will host the award ceremony on March 8 via a virtual conference,” the US Embassy said.

The IWOC Award, which is in its 15th year, recognizes women around the globe who have demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, often at great personal risk and sacrifice, according to the US Embassy.

The US Embassy also urged one and all to watch the IWOC Award Ceremony from the Embassy’s Facebook page at 8:30 pm on March 8.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has congratulated Khatun on being awarded the IWOC Award.
