New Administration willing to partner with Nepal to face different challenges: US Ambassador

January 22, Kathmandu: US Ambassador Randy Berry on Thursday called on PM KP Sharma Oli to discuss the priorities set by the new White House administration under President Joe Biden, according to a press statement issued by the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu on Friday.

In the meeting held at PM’s official residence Baluwatar, US Ambassador Berry said that the Biden administration wanted to partner with Nepal and other countries to solve problems caused by climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic, nuclear proliferation,  cyber warfare among a range of other issues.

Stating that the new administration would use diplomacy as the premier tool for global engagement, Ambassador Berry informed that President Biden had rejoined the Paris Climate Accord and would resume US membership in the World Health Organization.

Ambassador Berry reiterated the US Embassy’s desire to help make the Sagarmatha Sambaad dialogue a success, adding that he recognized that Nepal was on the “front lines” of climate change.

Expressing the belief that the Biden administration would be a leader on human rights, the American envoy to Nepal said that uplifting the rights of women and girls at home and around the world would be prioritized by the new administration.

“The meeting with Prime Minister Oli was one in a succession of high-level meetings Ambassador Berry will have with Nepali government and political party leaders to discuss the new presidential administration’s global priorities,” reads the statement.
