Nepal has strengthened law enforcement to end gender-based violence : Prez.
Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that Nepal has strengthened law enforcement and has implemented targeted-interventions to end gender-based violence and discrimination.
Virtually addressing the UN meeting marking 25th anniversary of Beijing Conference on Friday, President Bhandari said Nepal had made steady progress in twelve critical areas for ensuring women rights.
The Fourth World Women Conference in Beijing in 1995 had imagined a world where every woman and girl could exercise freedoms of choices, realize her rights, be free from violence, go to school, participate in decisions and earn equal pay for work of equal value.
However, a UN Women report shows the progress towards gender equality is faltering and hard-won advances are being reversed.
President Bhandari admitted that structural gaps were the major challenges for the full realization of ideals envisioned by the Beijing conference.
The president also called for coordinated actions from the international community not let the pandemic stall the progress made in gender equality.
