Prez. issues ordinance on acid attack culprits

Kathmandu: The Office of the President on Monday informed that President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued three ordinances including one related to prevention and control of acid and other harmful chemicals.

President issued the Ordinance on Acid and Other Hazardous Chemical Substances, the Ordinance on Amendment of Some Nepal Acts Related to Criminal Offence and Criminal Procedure and the Ordinance on Nepal Police and Province Police First Amendment.

Talking to Radio Nepal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe said with the ordinance coming into effect, a culprit of an acid attack would now face up to 20-year jail term and up to 1 million rupees fine.
