Collaborative, Democratic, Science-Based and Coordinated Global Partnership Need of the Hour : PM Oli
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the challenges such as arms race, climate change, and disasters impede the prospects of peace and sustainable development.
In a statement that PM Oli delivered virtually at the General Debate of the 75th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, he said multilateral cooperation had been an obvious casualty in the face of unilateral tendencies and protectionist policies.
Stressing on the need for multilateralism, PM Oli said that larger global good, not the parochial national interest, should underpin multilateralism and the rules-based order.
The PM said that the 75th anniversary of the United Nations was a time to muster stronger political will for enhanced international cooperation and solidarity and envision a future that is safer, more equitable and just.
P.M. Oli also said a collaborative, democratic, science-based and coordinated global partnership would help the world face the difficult months and years ahead.
The PM commended the UN Secretary-General for launching the Comprehensive Response to the COVID-19 pandemic
PM Oli said the theme of ‘the future we want, and the UN we need’ resonated well with the present situation.
PM Oli has said as the world embarks on the decade of action and delivery to implement the Agenda 2030, the current crisis has pushed the world to the brink of losing the gains made in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Saying that Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Land Locked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Development Countries (SIDCs) were facing limitation of resources, PM Oli said the current crisis threatened hard-earned achievements in key areas, pushing these countries plan to graduate from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) status in peril.
