Bagarphant village at risk of inundation
The Bagarphant village is at risk of being inundated after the Myagdi river washed away the gabion wall put to check floodwater from reaching the village. Some 200 households in the village at ward no. 2 of Beni municipality have been pushed to the brink of displacement.
According to the river control users committee chair Narayan Bahadur Karki, 38 of the 470 mesh wire blocks put up in the river bank have been washed away by floodwater on Thursday night. As a result, the river is now headed towards the settlement with Khaharekhola, Ghanseghar, Palance, and other areas falling under high risk of inundation.
The incident has caused a loss of more than 450,000 rupees. The embankment using mesh wires and stones were constructed last year at a total cost of Rs. 5 million through the Rupatal Conservation Integrated Development Project, Kaski. It spreads two kilometers from Dudhekhola of Bagarphant to Bangeghara.
The overflowing Myagdi river has already washed away some 150 ropannees of land this monsoon, while more areas are at risk of being swept away. The Bagaphant is a highly arable area for agriculture, neighboring the district headquarters Beni bazaar.
