Memo handed to Speaker calling for forming special committee


Leaders of various political parties and rights activists have called for forming a parliamentary special committee to investigate into the incident that took place at Chaurjahari municipality-8 of Rukum Paschim.

They demanded this in a memorandum they submitted to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, on Thursday.

Leaders and rights activists including Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Ganesh BK and Nepali Congress central member Jeevan Pariyar met with the Speaker and handed over the memorandum to him.

Six people, most of them from the Dalit caste, were killed and 12 others were injured when they were attacked by scores of people from Chaurjahari municipality-8 on May 23, when they were reportedly going to the municipality to marry a girl from the Malla caste of that area.

Speaker Sapkota said he was serious over the incident and committed to moving ahead for forming a parliamentary special investigation committee after discussing the matter with the parliamentary parties of the parties representing in the Federal Parliament.
